Show I BOULANGERS SUCCESSOR A few months ago General Boulanger as the Minister of War in France was the acknowledged idol of every French mans heart today they stand and see him ordered with his troops to an outof theway post with apparent indifference Then Boulanger was everything today he is nothing Had you told a Frenchman French-man thrae months ago that Boulanger was to have a downfall he would have laughed at you and left you with an earnest earn-est prayer of Vive It JJoulanger but today that same Frenchman sees that same Boulanger practically banished and as yet there has been no demonstration demonstra-tion against the change It was generally thought and with good reason too that the appointment of Boulangers successor would create a revolution but General Ferron has quietly assumed the command com-mand of the army and all is smooth One reason for this is probably found in the fact that Ferron knew how to cater to the tastes of the people He had no sooner taken the office than he increased the army The French love of the 111ili Loire immediately softened the public heart toward the new Minister and he already enjoys the confidence of half the Republic Tact is a great thing and General Ferron has used his to an advantage ad-vantage which has piobably saved his head The French have come to acknowledge ac-knowledge a successor to Boulanger and while ja few may still stay by him and utter tho old cry the echo will always com back LeItoiilanger at marl |
