Show < THE SCHOOLS j Tlc Cloniiic Exercise of the Hit rcrcnt Academy A large audience composed of the graduates scholars and friends of St Marks school gathered at the Walker Opera House on Saturday night to witness wit-ness the celebration of its twentieth I anniversary under the auspices of the Alumni Association C 0 White mare a graduate of 1882 i i was the first on the programme and he I delivered an interesting historical ai I i I dress He said that St Marks school j was founded in July 1867 in a rickety I old building now used a the kitchen of the Walker House There were then but sixteen pupils but by the end of the I first year the number was increased to 150 He proceeded to tell of the rapid I strides made by the school until it now I occupies a substantial and commodious I building and has an average attendance I I of 475 pupils The school is free to those j I who cannot afford t pay and children i of all denominations are made welcome i Mr Whittemore concluded with a tri1 I onto to Mr Miller and the assistant j I teachers who have worked so faithfully i Mr J H Brown a graduate of the class j I of 1881 then read an interesting essay entitled The spirit of the tempest Prof Radcliffe and Miss 11 Morgan I played a beautiful duet on the piano A male quartette sung Chapel Bells in I a way that did credit to themselves j Elmer Ellsworth read an original poem which is a fair sample of the unbounded I wit of which the writer is possessed and Robert Gorlinsky sang Vogrichs When 0 i i my dreams in his usual rich baritone j voice Governor West and Bishop Tuttle next delivered most appropriate addresses ad-dresses Miss Neilson gave the final instrumental in-strumental selection and Mr Miller dismissed dis-missed the audience AIT IAKE ACADEMY The term examination of all the pupils in attendance at Salt Lake Academy will take place at Hammond Hall on Monday and Tuesday June 13th and 14th The exercises of the graduating class will beheld be-held at the same place on Wednesday evening June 15th at 8 oclock All the patrons and friends of the school are cordially invited to attend all these exercises exer-cises The following is the pro rimme
