Show KILLED BY A TRAIN tAn t-An Old JUan Meets His Death on a I D a B G Bridge I The D R G bridge which crosses I City Creek at the corner of Sixth West I and North Temple streets was yesterday the scene of an accident which resulted in the sudden and violent death of an old man named Thomas J Jones I It seems that Jones was returning from a store toward his home and for I some unknown reason he chose to cross I the railroad bridge in preference to the footbridge near by notwithstanding the fact that the southbound train was insight in-sight and must have been seen by him as he was noticed to look along the track I The train came booming along and before I be-fore he could make any attempt to escape es-cape it was at the edge of the bridge I The old man stepped to one side on the I end of the ties and in this position the I engine and one or two cars passed I him He then however became dizzy i and swaying toward the train he was I caught in the back by a step and thrown violently into the creekbed The train was stopped and passengers going back found the old man in a dying condition He was carried to his home where after everything possible had been done for his relief he expired shortly before 2 oclock in the afternoon The bruises inflicted by the accident were on the side of the head and on the back A coroners inquest was held over the remains at the City Hall this morning and a verdict was rendered accordance with the facts given above I |
