Show THE OHIO PLATFORM The Republican State Convention met at Spr ngfield 0 yesterday and promulgate promul-gate a platform of principles It has the good old ring and one would think to read itthat the country was in the midst of wail and rebellion The Democratic party JH i denounced in right good style The platform calls for the security of the right tu vote at all hazards and says that tl e sacred guarantees of the right mnst 1 e maintained and additional legislation legis-lation lad to maintain it if necessary This nay mean more power to the Unite < States Marshals to swear inS deputi in-S to keep order on election days The sc Mies at Cincinnati last November show 1 I ow salutary a measure the granting grant-ing Sj his power is when there is a prospect pros-pect 0 a close election and of the party in poy er being ousted Most people will think pat the Democratic victory of Eist fall ws owing to the fact that the people desire a change and in accordance with their esire voted for a change But this is not he case at all if we may believe the 01 io Republicans The true cause say til icy was the willful suppression of th m ballot by the Democrats I They icglected to locate the place where the b 1 Allots were suppressed Possibly they r fer to Georgia where there is such a preji pnderance of Republicans The platform favors such legislation as will h rmonize the relations of labor and capita a very curious kind of legislation judgii g from the samples that the count y has seen heretofore The chief object of this legislation this fall is to get the vc tes of the workingmen under the prete > It of being specially their friend For tli c State to undertake to harmonize the re aliens of labor and capital is for the St ite to verge on to socialism The whole platform is a tendency to centralization zation and the control of private affairs by tin State One plank enunciates this strong y centralized doctrine We favor the establishment of a national na-tional rareau of industry enforcement the cit Jilthour law and adequate appropriations appropria-tions f om the public revenues for general educai on wliever the same is needed It isthe doctrine that to the General Government belong the control and regulation regu-lation jif the internal affairs of the States it is t Ie most pernicious doctrine that this c juntry will have to fight in the future In its tendency it is as fatal to Ameri an institutions as founded as was the do trine of secession If the General Gover merit may establish a national bureai of industry and enforce an eight hour I w it may say what the compensation compen-sation for eight hours labor shall be And i it may determine these things why n ay it not say what manufactures that la jor shall be devoted to the pro ductio i of It is the doctrine that the citizen is created for the State and not the St de for the citizen Foil > wing this the Ohio Republicans favor protective tariff which shall en count e American development and furnish fur-nish i emunerattve employment to American Am-erican labor Whether the products of Amer can labor can command a market and p ice to make it remunerative or not Bccim not to enter into the consideration of th question at all If an industry is not remunerative it must be made so and if i it cannot stand the expense itself some bne else must On the top of this the ij itform declares that we are op posed to the British policy advocated by the J jmocratic party under the guise of a tari r for revenue only It was a for tunat phrase to term the doctrine of free trade the British policy The phrase has the merit of being both dubious and deceitful and to many the only thing that the phrase Brit sh policy will suggest will be the fact ton at the British were once dominant t-on th s continent and that America had a sev n years war with the British to throw off their yoke To the Irish it will doubt ess suggest the Coercion Act and the rimes Act The British policy has n Lido London the center of the com merci II world and has made English comn erce the biggest commerce of the world The beneficent results of protection protec-tion nay be seen to good advantage in the pi 3sent condition of the iron trade and tl e shutting down of mills in Pitts 1 burg Thc Administration of President Clove land i 4 denounced and one might think that 1 e was an active arch traitor The demn ciation is based on the fact that Prcsii t ent Cleveland has selected Democrats Demo-crats or office instead of Republicans and i s une of the Democrats so selected have ijeen Confederates in former times They iccept the result of the war and are A uericans today and not secessionists secession-ists General Grant also selected some such i lOn among whom were General Longs reet and Colonel Mosby their politics pol-itics a ter the war were Republican while the 1 jlitics of Secretary Lamar are i Demo ratic Then comes a censure of the A Immistration for its disregard of the ci il service plank in the Democratic platfo m This is amusing in view of the conIpi nut which some Democratic pa per ire making against the inaction of Ihn Administration in not turning the rascal out Only the other day a sony of He son-y Ward Beecher was nominated for a mall office and the nomination was I ienou iced by some Democrats as a i Mugw innps or Republican one Of course the c4nvemition thought all the nominations I nomina-tions jif Southern Democrats an insult to loy lil people of the whole country coun-try hey could not do otherwise it j being i part of their stock in trade Denun iation of Democrats and an up holdin of the doctrines of centralization and pr itection are the main things of the I platfori D and things of which the Demo I F cratic party in Ohio need not be afraid It is far more reactionary than the majority major-ity of Republican platforms and invokes nationalaid for dull times and depressed trade and thinks that in the control of the relations of labor and capital by the General Government will be found a solution of the difficulties of those relations rela-tions The condemnation of the new Administration was to be expected and the chief thing in that is the fact that a Democratic Administration has not followed fol-lowed the wishes of the Republicans Their battle cry will be Protection and the enforcement of the eighthour law by Congress The cry will not win
