twist to this fear is that the students of pre non-pre- dominant ethnic groups are not fearful of terrorist acts they fear o acts of hate from other students or orr oro r I remarks from faculty members These students dont don't know what to do if they fall victim to such treatment They are not alone in their ignorance most students students students stu stu- dents of do not know what to do if they are harassed or if they feel that a grade was the result of discrimination The purpose of this article article article arti arti- arti- arti cle is to educate students regarding the Student Code of Conduct The Student Association of which every student student stu- stu dent e is a member has developed a avery 1 very comprehensive standard for forthe f. f the st students d to use as a gui available in every department division building etc of the col col- col- col lege For the purpose of information information tion we have printed the following section for the review of our read read- ers PROCEDURES FOR ADJUDICATION ADJUDICATION ADJUDICATION CATION IN CASES OF ALLEGED STUDENT MISCONDUCT MISCONDUCT MISCONDUCT MISCON MISCON- DUCT The following dis disciplinary disciplinary nary procedures will be used in all cases referred to the Director of Student Life and Leadership Office 1 Allegation of student misconduct misconduct misconduct miscon miscon- duct may be made by any member of the College community including including including ing students faculty or staff and wh where re alleged misconduct occurs outside the College boundaries members of the community at- at large All cases of alleged student misconduct shall be referred in writing to the Office of the Director of Student Life and tr h 3 t Leadership for review 2 Within three days excluding weekends and holidays of the referral the Director of Student Life and Leadership will notify the thea a accused student of the charges The notice will include a description tion of the acts the time and place if known and a summary of the information upon which the charges are based The Director will also schedule a meeting with the student 3 The Director of Student Life and Leadership or designee will attempt resolution of the problem at this first step The charges against the student will be read to him her and the investigation procedures procedures procedures pro pro- will be explained The student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent will be given copies of the Student Code of Conduct and the charges be informed of the names of any witnesses and be given an opportunity to present his her case 4 The Director of Student Life and Leadership will then conduct an investigation and make a preliminary preliminary preliminary pre pre- pre pre- determination of the merit of the case If so warranted th the Director will recommend i c appropriate misconduct penalties 1 as outlined in the Student Code of J Conduct and provide written jj notice to the student s 's 3 5 Within five days excluding 1 weekends and holidays of receiving receiving receiving ing the written outcome notice the student may either accept the resolution resolution reso- reso A lution or recommended penalties r-j r or request a hearing before the Student Standards Committee If a i student accepts the resolution or recommended penalties they V 1 l become final Jj 6 If a student chooses to have the matter heard by the Student 1 Standards Committee she he must notify the Director of Student Life and Leadership in writing within i five days excluding weekends and J holidays and then follow the procedures circumstances which she he feels merit review e e. e copy of the recommended penalties from the Director of Student Life and Leadership 7 The hearing is not intended to be an adversarial process The Should the student choose to be accompanied by an advocate the student must personally present present present pres pres- ent his her evidence and position Should the student choose to be accompanied by legal counsel the Colleges College's legal counsel will also attend 8 The student has the right to present evidence and witnesses Any evidence relevant to the case may b be admitted and considered 9 When the deliberations are concluded concluded con con- eluded the committee will make recommendations to the Vice President for Student Services who may then take action according to the
