| Show In Out Comes Out of the Closet By Susie Burgess Burgoss A E O tor Kevin Kline shows he can so soI I comedy as he stars in the new movie i In Out Director Frank Oz picked the right guy to play Howard Brackett Howard is a mild mannered English teacher at Greenleaf High in Indiana He is devoted to his teaching career and his students love his classes Howards Howard's quiet life suddenly turns around when a former student Cameron Drake Matt Dillon wins an Oscar for playing the part of a homosexual soldier When Cameron gives his acceptance speech he tributes tributes tributes trib trib- utes it to his English teacher ending with and he is gay Howards Howard's students are shocked He cant can't be gay he is getting married in three days to Emily Montgomery Joan Cusak Howards Howard's parents cant can't believe the news either How can Howards Howard's mother Debbie Reynolds Reynold's plan the wedding of her dreams for her son if he is gay If anyone should be shocked it should be Howard How could anyone anyone anyone any any- one think such a thing OK so may maybe maybe maybe be he does like Barbara and maybe he goes dance at social functions functions functions but what does that prove The media decides to flock to Greenleaf Indiana to get the story Howards Howard's job is suddenly on the line The principal Bob does not think that Howard should be a teacher especially with all the pub pub- J u uh F I I 1 1 When slick and aggressive tv reporter Peter Malloy Tom rom Selleck shows up on the scene he tries to get Howard to confess that he is gay Howard just keeps denying it despite Peters Peter's attempts You don dont don't t kiss people at an inter- inter sexual homo Intersection Peter exclaims after Peter kisses him confessing that he is gay gay- While Cameron is watching a talk show he hears a joke made about Howard and Michael Jackson He decides that he can go to Greenleaf and fix everything So he ends up Hauling his bulimic girlfriend Sonya Shalom Harlow to a motel in Greenleaf where she cant can't figure out the rotary telephone When Cameron gets tangled up in the story it just gets more funny and surprising The movie ends with almost an cli anti matic surprise at the end For such a controversial subject screenwriter Paul handled it in a very entertaining fashion He proved his point without being preachy It is a pretty good film if you youcan youcan youcan can get over some of the corny parts I probable would have laughed more at the jokes and innuendoes if I had hadnot hadnot hadnot not been in shock through half of the movie Over all I enjoyed jt it it and would it to most people In Out was an out and out comedy with witha a sentimental touch and a few sur sur- sur- sur V T 1 t t w p I 4 k J.
