| Show The Th e Wisdom of Yoda to c By Charles Barnard Staff Writer Welcome welcome welcome The staff of the Horizon would like to welcome back all of you are back on campus for another round of this thing we call school For those of you that are new to the campus hello This is the Horizon We are the student run newspaper on campus In this first editorial of the year I would like to write a little bit about us why we are here and most importantly importantly importantly what you can do about it The Horizon is a student newspaper per with two basic purposes the first being to teach interested students the theart theart theart art of journalism We are here for the same reason as every other student We are trying to better ourselves through education This newspaper is a major part of our education Through it we are learning how to write for edit and lay layout out a newspaper We learn the laws and ethics that govern journal journal- ism We also learn how to do research and interview for stories Finally we learn how to be objective Our goal in a story is to write it fairly fairly fairly fair fair- ly and objectively so the reader can use those facts in the story to make their own decision about it The second purpose of the Horizon is for you the students staff and faculty We feel it is our obligation obligation obligation obliga obliga- tion to report and inform the student body as well as faculty and staff of what is going on around campus We will give you what we feel can benefit benefit benefit bene bene- fit you during your time at Not everything that goes on here at is good news This is life We will report on both the good and the bad that is taking place on the campus Most of the stories you find in the Horizon will be some type of news stories This is where we will give you the facts of what happened It is our goal to only give you the facts and leave out all of our opinions We feel it is the readers responsibility to tomake tomake tomake make up their own mind about what happened This is why when we write a story we try to make it as objective as possible The editorials in the Horizon is where we state our opinions of different different different dif dif- dif dif- ferent events These editorials are our voice to you Of course you will find findan an editorial on this page but you can also find them once a week on the sports page Chuck Full of Sports Breez Through Sports as well on the Arts and Entertainment page Yes every review on the A E page is a form of an editorial Many times in our editorials we might say something some people do donot donot donot not like Many times we will see things happening on campus we do donot donot donot not like and we will write about it As long as it is responsible and not libelous this is our right If you agree with us or not that is up to you So what do you do if we write something you disagree with How do you get your voice to be heard Easy write a letter to the editor If an editorial is where we express our voice and our opinion on a sub sub- a letter to the editor is your voice The staff of the Horizon encourages encourages encourages I ages letters to the editor If you do not like something you see that we are doing tell us If you do not agree with an editorial that we wrote tell us If you see something on campus that you dislike tell us Let your voice be heard But remember letters to the editors editors editors edi edi- edi- edi tors does not have to be negative If you see something that you really like on campus or have suggestions for us or for the campus tell us about it We at the Horizon encourages constructive criticism But it should be a way two-way street We will give it out in our editorials but we know and expect to get it back This helps us learn how we can do a better job This benefits both us as students trying trying trying try try- ing to learn and you as readers to this paper This will be the last Wisdom of Yoda Starting next week we are introducing a new Editorial Editor I have enjoyed my short time writing I Ithe the Wisdom and I hope you can say the same thing I have one last piece of advice to give Try not Do or do donot donot donot not there is no try Star Wars Quote of the Week d DONT CALL ME A MINDLESS PHILOSOPHER You OVERWEIGHT GLOB OF GREASE t. t t i t p C C |
