| Show Student Agrees To Disagree To The Editor I think I agree with Thomass Thomas's editorial column Feb 27 I 1 Isay say I think because it was so full of immature name-calling name and Mormon bashing that the point was a little clouded But the point was there I congratulate his call for a little littlemore littlemore littlemore more tolerance in dealing with gays and lesbians I 1 applaud him in his identifying the problem of hate and malice that some minded close-minded people people people peo peo- have towards the homosexual community I wonder though if h hes he's s 's not just plain mistaken I wonder if he didn't exaggerate the conditions in high school a little but I can forgive him for that I wonder if hes he's seeing the reason that gays and lesbians want a club a little wrong Can we honestly say its it's to create a safe place for the victims of hate crimes crimes That's That's like a group of escaped convicts meeting in an announced place at a weekly meeting meeting meeting meet meet- ing in an attempt to escape the police The lesbian gay clubs would not provide a safe place for those stu stu- stu- stu dents What would happen if that truckload of teenagers who tried to assault wife knew of a weekly club where they could attack a small group of people they hate so much I think was totally off base when he wrote that the schools are teaching the students to fear and hate That's just not true When the Board of Education decided to eliminate all clubs to prevent prevent prevent pre pre- vent the lesbian gay club they were not teaching students to grab baseball bats and run out and exterminate the gay community Behavior like that is the action of people who have no education The Board did not cave in to pressure They voted the way the majority of their constituency felt I 1 believe that's why they are chosen right To represent how the people asa as asa asa a whole feel Whether they thought it was right or wrong they voted the way the majority of the community felt J a i still totally agree with his mes mes- sage We cannot agree with a persons person's persons person's persons person's per per- sons son's beliefs and practices but we dont don't need to persecute them We can disagree with someone but not hate them Hate and fear do not need to exist between people who think dif dif- dif dif- If was trying to reduce hate why did he lash out against others of ofa a different opinion with hatred If he was trying to reduce judgement why did he lash out against rel religious and moral beliefs What he did was the exact exact opposite of his message He called for temperance but gave none He c called for understanding but had none Dallas Roberts Journalism Student |
