| Show Broken Arrow Hits the Mark By Shannon Jones Contributing Writer v When going to a John Woo film I anticipate action I am ready for thrills but Broken Arrow far surpassed surpassed surpassed sur sur- passed any of my wildest 0 Woo hurls us into the world of SA SAY Y Riley Hale Christian Slater and Vic Deakins John two Air Force pilots who seem to have a friendly rivalry All is not as it seems though when on a test flight of the B 3 Stealth Bomber armed with two nuclear weapons Deakins attempts to kill Hale and steal the warheads While the rivalry heats up as Hale tries to keep Deakin from nom his objective objective y tive Woo catapults us from one a explosive event to the next Hale is is aided by a gutsy and persistent persistent persistent per per- park ranger Samantha Mathis this strong willed woman holds her own against the bad guys with her quick thinking and park ranger commando training While she and Hale take turns rescuing rescuing rescuing ing each other from Deakins and his cronies the timer is ticking and yet this film never feels forced but flows from one scene to the next with electrifying electrifying electrifying elec elec- style 5 engaging villain is hard not to like yet there is no question of who our hero is and no problem rooting for Slater through the whole film The supporting cast do a fine job and I was pleased to see Howie Long playing one of military mili mili- r i t tary sid sidekicks kicks T Those ose of you who whoM M loye-a loye love good explosion ha have e no fear Broken Arrow packs the stunts with all kinds kinas of gunfire explosions and maybe even a nuclear detonation Utah's breathtaking southern landscape helps to enthrall us in this hip exciting humorous action while Hale and Deakins try to outmaneuver each other from nom one scene to the next in an effort to gain control of the nuclear weapons The soundtrack by Hans Zimmer is fit perfectly from scene to scene increasing and often enhancing the mood of the movie Thoughtful touches like the baritone guitar sequence played at all of charmingly maniacal moments borrowing borrowing borrowing bor bor- rowing a sort of spaghetti western tone keep this exhilarating adventure adventure adventure ture from getting grim or monotone All in all I think it is one of the best action films I have seen in a along along along long time and I can give it my highest high high- est recommendation to all action fans t r i i. i f 1 r h t l rt 1 j b i I r rJ r J J y yf w l lr f r Jl I i M iJohn i- i John and Christian Slater star in Broken Arrow |
