Show Annual State Fair has Now Come to a Close By Amanda Nielson Entertainment Editor Thousands upon thousands of pounds of livestock invaded Utah State for the Annual State Fair It has been in existence since 1856 some nine years after the pioneers pioneers pioneers pio pio- pio- pio came to the Salt Lake Valley Deseret Agricultural Manufacturing Society organized ed and sponsored the State Stale Fair It was made up of a president and six directors who were elected by the vote of the Legislative Assembly The fair was started in hopes of promoting the arts of domestic industry and to encourage the production production production pro pro- of articles from the native elements clements in the Territory stated Desert Agricultural Manufacturing Society The Deseret Store was the first site of the fair It was located at the current site of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and it only lasted lasted lasted last last- ed three days On display were some agricultural al product such as large hens from Lands Land's End England Also on d dis display display dis- dis splay s- s play were some hand products like saddles and buckskin suits H For the first several years it was not held annually but hut after 1889 it was held an average of every other year The location also changed from year to year It was not until 1902 that the legislature approved the funding for the lot where the fair is currently held This year there were many exhibits including Old Iron Antique Exhibits which have restored farm equipment As well as asa asa asa a Butter Cow Sculpture and Commercial Exhibits Cowboy Poets Among the honored performers were Clay Walker N W SYNC Matt King We just could not have asked for better hetter weather Weve We've seen lots lotsof lotsof lotsof of families and little kids That's our goal to create a family atmos atmos- phere stated Tiffanie Sammons spokeswoman for Utah State Fair The fair had a great turn out this year Their goal was to get attendees as of Friday they had Many were skeptical because of road construction obviously road construction hasn't had an affect on us Sammons explained r Itt r j I r 7 l i I J HI 1 no 1 lj I tJ f C j. j n I rt I.
