Show Larkins Larkin's Garden Working on a New CD Release By Angelique Pollard Staff Writer Larkins Larkin's S 'S Garden is a band rising rising ris ris- ing ng on the local scene here in Salt Lake This band consists of four talented young musicians who have been together for six years Larkins Larkin's Garden put their band together as sophomores in high school When they first started they were known as The Garden The band consisted of five members who were Chris Hancuff lead vocalist Ben Decker vocals guitar Brian Colton vocals bass Byron Belka vocals drums and Buck Griffiths Griffith's vocals vocals In October 1993 the band suffered suffered suf suf- suf- suf a hard loss Chris Hancuff the lead vocalist lost his long longi i battle with cancer As a tribute to Chris the remaining four members members members mem mem- bers of the band decided to change the the name The used Chris' Chris middle name Larkin and the band became Larkins Larkin's Garden In 1995 one year after graduating graduating graduating high school the band produced produced produced pro pro- their first CD entitled Larkin Larkin's s 's Garden Rain Outside After being apart two years due to Ben and Byron serving missions the band is back together They are currently playing the local night clubs here herein in Salt Lake The band writes their own lyrics cs and music They are looking to release a new CD in January 1999 which they plan to distribute to radio stations here and outside of Utah The CD will also be sent to major record record- ing labels to see if they like what they hear The band is very realistic about the music business When asked if they have a goal to make an appearance on the Grammy's or MTV awards Ben said Playing locally in a band is noway no noway noway way to support yourself and a family so we dont don't plan on making making making mak mak- ing this a career that's why were we're going to school Its It's mainly mainly main main- mainly ly a hobby However Ben says the band wouldn't mind touring with and opening for a big band Larkins Larkin's Garden can currently be seen playing at The Holy Cow C w. w The days and times are listed in inThe inThe The Tribune and The City Weekly They hope to soon be playing more venues such as The Dead Goat and The Zepher |
