He said that l leaving brings him both sadness sadness sadness sad sad- ness and happy anticipation for the future was first director of student activities and has held the position for forthe forthe forthe the past six years I feel really good about the progress that weve we've made he said Weve received national recognition for our family program series and the paper is better than its it's ever been He says his greatest single accomplishment is that the number of students involved i in student government and andr r activities has substantially in in- creased Much of this he attributes attributes attributes at at- tributes to CAB College Activities Board which he est es es- es- es t CAB he said has been a great asset to the in view of the fact that there are arc many people providing many activities rather than just one person trying to present a wide range of programs Seeing students achieve success not only here while they're actually involved in student activities but once they hit the working world That's extremely satisfying to tome tome tome me he said referring to the aspects of his job he found most rewarding Its an Incredible incredible in In- credible opportunity to Impact Impact impact Im Im- im- im pact the lives of others in a positive way that's the way Ive I've benefited most from the position Its been extremely gratifying to see student leaders move on into the world of work in extremely responsible paying high-paying positions he continued many of them have come comeback comeback comeback back to me and said that the success they experienced can largely be attributed to skills that they gained while a student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent leader When asked what if any were his major disappointments disappoint disappoint- ments he said its always been a challenge to urge students students students stu stu- dents to get out and participate participate participate par par- in activities to take a risk People seem to be a little bit complacent Elaborating he said They go to class they go to work they go to their families and seem kind of satisfied with their life that way and dont don't really gamble or take a risk If students really were aware of all that is provided to them through student activities and if they gave the activities a chance by participating they'd be amazed at what they might have been missing out I on A major and continuing concern of the activities office will be services and activities for students at the Sandy Airport Airport Airport Air Air- port and South locations according according according ac ac- ac- ac cording to Its difficult to provide services to the other othe campuses and to tomake tomake tomake make those students feel part of this this' c campus m pus he sa said d It Its s difficult for ifor forone one director to do doIt doit It There are logistical problems and I think that necessitates additional staffing staffing staff staff- ing to help begin to meet the needs of those students We have begun to do things but its it's difficult really difficult He went on to say that on both the main and satellite campuses the key is to provide provide provide pro pro- vide a well-rounded well program that no single activity will meet the needs of all the stu stu- stu- stu dents Its really a challenge because of the diversity of the students he said When asked what hard- hard earned wisdom he would if able impart to his successor paused a moment and replied I think its it's extremely extremely extremely ex ex- im important to provide the students knowledge and to give them the freedom to learn and experience and discover discover discover dis dis- dis- dis cover on their own He said that in a controlling controlling controlling control control- ling environment without any kind of freedom the students students students stu stu- dents are not free to learn I think the learning comes from the experience I will al always always always al- al ways say that learning that comes from being a st student dent leader is as valuable as what happens in the classroom plans to seek a Masters degree in public administration professional now for 11 years and so school has always been a part of my life I would like perhaps perhaps perhaps per per- haps to teach someday to tobe tobe tobe be part of the faculty of some
