| Show COUSINS ri 2 2 1 i Film Review by Mike Richan Richanne One ne o 0 ot e best es 1 ms currently currently currently cur- cur playing Cousins is a romantic escape much like Room With a View set in inthe inthe inthe the present with a host of enjoyable and interesting characters Based on the French film Cousin Cuisine this adaptation succeeds with the delicate subjects of infidelity and dishonesty using witty dialogue and true to life per per- Ted Danson and Isabella are the couple in question finding themselves falling in love after discovering discovering discovering discover discover- ing that their spouses are having an affair behind their backs Both Danson and characters are faithful to their vows neither can understand the antics of their partner When asks Danson Danson Danson Dan- Dan son if he has ever cheated on his wife played by Sean Young Danson replies Yes Monopoly stole some of her properties And likewise is dutiful she cannot bear the idea of disrupting life for her daughter ugh ter by getting a divorce from her husband a acar acar acar car salesperson played by William Peterson Though it itis itis itis is obvious from the start that Peterson and Youngs Young's affair is anything but serious Danson and Rossel Rossel- lini find in each other a sense of commitment and honesty that they do not see in their spouse and so they must wade through the mess messof messof messof of getting things straight and coming to terms with their feelings Helping them along is Lloyd Bridges as Dansons Danson's father who himself is making moves on mother in typical French fashion Hes He's a salty old man who doesn't go into churches because as he puts it God always makes me nervous when you get r him indoors Bridges handles hand hand- les the character well one might think it written for him Young and Peterson though slightly caricatured give excellent performances as well and director Joel Schumacher blends the films comic and serene moments smoothly creating a seamless seamless seamless seam seam- less and palpable picture Cousins is well written and the dialogue should make for enjoyable repeat It seems to wane a little in the last twenty minutes when it is inevitable inevitable inevitable in in- evitable that Danson and will get together one wants them to simply ditch their burdensome and disloyal spouses get married married married mar mar- ried and happily sail off into the sunset It is probably bly b- b ly a fault of the viewer anxious to have the two together its it's a fine romance to wish for and the film a alight alight alight light and enjoyable enter enter- 2 1 I r |
