Show THE uncertainties OF LIFE due not only to the uncertainty of life in so far as the life span of a person is concerned but in many other ways are we conscious of the unc uncertainties that confront confront us as individuals or as nations during these days of transition highway accidents are taking many out of life and are you taking note of the great number of headon head on collisions reported in newspapers today in every city and especially along the open roads between cities there is an increasing number of accidents caused by persons who are either careless in their driving or because they are run into by someone else who is careless while it is true some accidents are unavoidable when blow outs occur or some part of the mechanism breaks and cars are suddenly thrown out 0 of control the greater number of highway accidents are the result of taking chances which bring disaster not only to the one w who ho so offends but to countless other persons involved in such accidents as we read about today Is it because the average person has so little desire to live or is it the result of too much haste or berha perhaps alps the overindulgence over indulgence in drink which so clouds the brain that such type of driver is unable to pilot his car in safe and sane manner whatever the cause the result spells disaster and death or injury to all concerned and so are many taken out of life in a hurry travel by air is also uncertain these days and plane crashes are being reported almost daily tornadoes and floods were reported early in the week in cities of the middle west although the loss of life is small the property damage runs into high figures and that means the loss of homes for many of the inhabitants of the afflicted areas and so the fl figures ures mount to convince ones one of the uncertainty of life or outliving oT of living conditions for families throughout the land tn in L foreign countries the loss of life during past days has multiplied as result of uprisings and continuous warfare in certain areas it behooves us to think and to appreciate the opportunities we have to prolong life if we would have a part in the new and better age so close upon us now although our responsibilities may increase and the uncertainties of living conditions will multiply before any change for the better can be hoped for there is much to be thankful f til for if we will but count our blessings each day speaking of chance taking we watched with interest the daring attempt to travel those dangerous rapids of the idaho rivers by norman D and three other boatmen and their passengers we are glad that their hazardous experiences are over and that they were successful one of the four had a narrow escape while trying his hand at the most dangerous river runn running ng he ever experienced and we cannot but wonder what is gained by taking such chances other than the personal satisfaction of accomplishing a seemingly impossible task so life goes on some folks taking chances in their line of daily work while others on pleasure bent take risks the average person would have no desire for or see little reason to take we are living in an age when all manner of change is to be expected so life at best is a game of chance we cannot but admire the courage some folks exhibit however whether it be in the performance of some outstanding work which involves hardship and uncertainty or some act of unusual nature to prove that nothing is impossible for man to fo overcome according to his ability or willingness to try apropos of this thought comes to mind the poem by an unknown author entitled its easy to quit and we dedicate it now to those folks who never give up the struggle of life as it must be lived today its easy to quit anybody can say the hill is too high or its too far away anybody cansay can say im too tired to keep on and stop halfway half way there but dont be that one whenever life gives you a task hard to do dont stop in the middle but see the thing through its easy to quit any fool can explain to himself and to his f friends why the struggle was va vain in i it take brains when you start cutting loose from a difficult task to think up an excuse there is always a plausible soul soothing lie on the tongue of the chap who refuses to try |
