Show 1 minutes of meeting I 1 held by associated civic clubs of utah I 1 the meeting was called to ordeal order j by president L A in the newhouse New hoase hotel at p m 1 minutes of the previous meeting were approved PS ns read all of the mountain states association resolutions were ap proved with the exception of the one relative to interstate trade I 1 barriers wh ch was tabled for further study and a committee of chauncey sandberg chairman owen dastrup L lee and T W jensen was appointed to study the food stamp plan of distributing surplus commodo ie the resolutions were discussed and acted upon separately C W love jr and james M sargent both past presidents of the association spoke briefly on the groups work T W jensen reported the san ta clara checking station hasteen has been reopened l and will be operated 24 hours each day in the future following an explanation by F G martines of the activities concerning the alunite industry at which time he called attention to the fact that secretary of the interior ickes had sold the entire block of bonneville dam power to the aluminum Cor corporation corporal 0 o n of america to process arkansas and dutch guinea bauxite in competition with utah alunite the secretary was instructed to investigate the reasons for the action and enter a protest george M hunt spoke on the wayne county court house project and asked that efforts be continued to obtain sufficient funds with which to complete it A G mckenzie McKenzi ej secretary of the western division american Americ aft mining congress spoke briefly the association Asso cation agreed to work for the appointment of a utah man as chief of the U S bureau of mines committee appointments as recommended om mended by president were approved by the directors on motion of george M hunt the he association went on record as actively supporting the small reservoir program in utah and the S secretary was instructed to wire the ulah ua ah congressional delegation urging its cooperation the bicknell bottoms project was discussed and tentative plans made to ascertain the value of the land involved C N woods regional forester told of the efforts of the forest service to properly use all forest lands for the benefit of the most people and said that through past experience he expected his department part ment to do a better job during the next decade than in the past action on the maple canyon road project was delayed pending word from the millard county commission relative to obtaining the right of way on moton of chauncey sandberg the association agreed to support the hurricane tunnel and reservoir project the members and directors were asked a ked to make a further study of the proposed plan of establishing establish a credit rating service in southern utah the special committee headed by F G martines was requested to investigate the status of the redmond flood control project and do everything possible to obtain some action immediately herbert A snow president of the salt lake city chamber of commerce was introduced and spoke briefly dr F R king of green river spoke on the necessity of interesting outside capital in utah industry arid and urged continued alertness to opportunities to increase employment following a discussion by H B waters of the advantages of welcoming travelers at our state borders and telling them what they may see the secretary w was as in instructed sti acted ted to contact the state road commission commending them for I 1 constructing historical site markers I 1 inquire as to the feasibility of operating an information service in connection with present checking stations and publishing a monthly magazine similar to that I 1 of arizona the secretary was also instructed to determine from I 1 the arizona highway department the cost of publishing its magazine and what portion of the total cost is received from subscription and other charges it was further decided that if utah publishes such a magazine it should contain traffic regulations of the state RAY E CARR executive secretary |
