Show some people think that we who live so far removed from fro m cities and the attractions of city life miss a lot and they wonder how we manage to exist but like the grange woman at the state fair who said debbe they do dont n at laugh as loud loua debbe they dont have as much but theres a more peaceful look in ib their faces f aces so say we as we make comparison and like the woman at the fair we enjoy the little things of life and the occasions which are as big thin things gs to those who go miles to be a part thereof the guests who gathered to enjoy the la sal ranch party last saturday evening are an example as are those who will meet again next saturday afternoon at the indian creek ranch who will also travel many miles to enjoy the hospitality offered there leaving behind for the moment whatever of worldly care may be troubling them and spending a few hours in wholesome outdoor fun amid surroundings roun dings that are beautiful and with friends who are dear to each other and to quote the woman at the fair again realizing Reali zin how mighty fortunate to be livin in a country where the sky aint full 0 war speaking of fairs our state fair will soon get into full swing and we hope you are taking note of the attractions to be offered during the week of september 1421 14 21 and speaking of war how unpredictable are the events and how surprising the changes which occue in such quick succession now one dare not think what it would mean to be drawn into the turmoil and strife we read about and yet we must expect to be if we go on preparing for it since it is an unwritten law that what we think about long ion enough we do and what we fear we attract with politics taking the foreground these days we are brought into touch with many types of people it is interesting to take note of their differences of opinion or platform and of the effort being made to elect their candidates if they are campaigning and to watch the progress of those who are running for office interesting indeed governor phillips of oklahoma says organized society requires one to subordinate many of his personal desires to the good of the whole community and to assume duties for the public good to elect such men who are of this type would soon put an end to the unscrupulous acts of the self seeking ones and would restore the confidence of the people who have lost interest in politics because they know too tao much about the inner deceit and dishonesty practiced and the pity of it is that because of the dishonesty practiced in regard to elections as they are now managed the candidates who have the interest of humanity at heart are somehow forced out of the running and are never given a chance to show their good works A compromise measure in regard to the compulsory training bill seems to be inevitable and by the time the amendments are all digested and agreed upon the burke wadsworth bill will be something quite different from its original form and intent there are so many angles to the bill and so many loop holes for those who would take advantage that it will be difficult to enforce it in its full form to exempt those engaged in religious work or students of theology or those engaged in special work seems unfair and will cause dissension among those who engage in other occupations while the powers that be in washington are wrangling over the amendments time is rushing on and events abroad are taking many turns which require most careful decisions to be made else we will be forced into the war compulsory training notwithstanding many predictions made by and through scientific or I 1 other means are coming true in regard to national affairs and the daily happenings which take their toll of life in other ways the terrific loss of life through airplane and automobile travel is something to be reckoned with too all of which proves that in the twinkling of an eye can joy be turned to sadness in these changing times and do you take note of the many who are apparently on ale pleasure asure bent who are so quickly taken out of life in these days so perhaps after all we who live in the lesser known places are indeed fortunate our so called pleasures may be limited but there are compensations to overbalance over balance them and there are so many things to be thankful for that we have no regrets as we compare our lot with those who live in the cities rather do we give thanks for these wide open spaces and for the beauties of the surrounding country and for the friends who meet and greet us as we carry on in our humble way as a part of the community in which we live |
