Show la sal livestock co entertains guests saturday evening the annual supper and evening program prepared by the ranch ranch folks of la sal attracted upward of four hundred guests on saturday evening the day was ideal f for or the outdoor d party wh vc ch h was preceded by a livestock exhibit from to visitors came from many directions and included prominent folk from colorado and utah supper was served at six in the perfect outdoor setting under the huge pine trees and many f friends and neighbors enjoyed the generous hospitality offered as they sat in groups or visited during e the supper hour members of the charles and leland redd families assisted by other ranch folks served the guests after they were welcomed by charles redd who later introduced the speakers and entertainers in his usual affable manner the program was furnished by local and visiting folk and included vocal voal and instrumental numbers a few impromptu speeches interspersed with community singing led by arch bronson an interesting te skit depicting a debate between president roosevelt and j mr willkie willete Will kte and a lively indian dance by eight blanding men patterned after the ceremonial tribal dances seen recently at gallup N M which had to be repeated after the laughter and the hearty applause subsided four of the men who took part are members of the sagebrush quartette which also entertained with enjoyable vocal numbers during the evening mayor of salt lake city was an honored guest and one of the speakers as was dr sessions president of carbon college both of whom paid tribute to mr redd for his effort to gather together so many people to meet in such friendly and happy manner and both stressed the advantage of living in this peaceful and picturesque section of utah mr redd revie reviewed wea the history of the settlement of la sal and invited comments and additional information pertaining e to the early history of the state stat e he also outlined the trip to be made next week to the hole in the rock where early pioneers blasted a trail from central utah through the canyon to the colorado river he urged good attendance and stressed the importance of the occasion as one of educational value and an opportunity which may not occur again for many years A ten day trip is planned which will be made by auto as far as possible and then by pack horse and hiking it was not until eleven that the program was completed and goodbyes were said everyone present expressing appreciation for a delightful evening which will be long remembered |
