Show FIVIE FIVE AGRE ACRE TRACTS NOW AVAILABLE federal regulations under which any american citizen is eligible to make application for the purchase or lease of a five acre tract of unreserved public land were made public by the U S land office during the past week applications will not be received by the U S land offices until after july 27 however full text of the five acre tract law is printed in the august number of the desert magazine briefly summarized the regulations specify that the land may be used for cabin or ho recreation health convalescent or business purposes with the exception of business sites the tracts are not intended as a source of livelihood however the land may either be purchased or leased for a period not exceeding five years the department of interior favors leases rather than sales at the present time this enactment differs from the long established homestead and desert entry acts in that it requires neither continuous residence on the land nor a fixed expenditure pend iture for improvements in the case of lands it will be necessary for the applicant to reimburse the government for the cost of surveys the minimum sale price is an acre the annual rental rate rat is left to the discretion of the secretary of interior applications may be made only by american citizens and only one five acre tract will wih be allotted to each applicant unless there are valid reasons for the lease or sale of irregular tracts the anve five acre plots w will ill be by feet f beet the occupant is under no obligation to develop water nor is the federal government under any obligation to supply water it will remain for each applicant to work out the solution of his water problem in a satisfactory manner application blanks may be obtained from the various U S land offices |
