Show ANOTHER VISIT TO PARADOX VALLEY M M 0 for many weeks we have been in correspondence with friends in paradox valley hoping to find time lime to make another visit to that lovely spot nestled between the la sal mountains and the foothills of the colorado mountains and within 12 miles of the colorado utah state line we accomplished it over last weekend week end it is an easy drive to la sal since the new highway hichwa y from our valley home jo la sal junction was completed a year ago but the 25 mile trip over the mountain is a continuous climb to the saddle and over not so good roads although much improvement work has been done since since our last trip about a year ago so our good friend mr C A snyder and his grandson cato wagner journeyed over tha a mountain to la sal to meet us and as usual we left our car safely parked under the lovely shade trees in front of the leland redd red home and went on our way we learned that a great deal of traffic is now going over this mountain road due to mining interests which are in ill progress and we found many of our paradox friends busily engaged in working their claims some having given up their regular farm work for the time being to take advantage of the demand for ore which is now being shipped out daily on sunday morning we met other friends who came to the school house for the community meeting we held there and it was pleasant to meet them again we also enjoyed the hospitality and friendliness always expressed and during this visit we stayed at the home of mr and mrs john columbo we look forward to another visit ere long not only to paradox valley but to spend a night at the home of mrs allen alien who lives about half way over the mountain in a beautiful but isolated spot where she and her husband have lived for over ten years you may recall we published some of mrs allens aliens poetry some weeks ago on the homemakers page and told you about her at that time mrs allen alien accompanied us to paradox and on sunday afternoon we made the return trip since it was necessary to be back at our work in the record office bright and early on monday morning although the visit was shorter than usual it was none the less enjoyable and we are booked for another weekend week end as soon as we can arrange the time to go paradox valley like our own location and other points around here is much in need of rain although their crops are not suffering as yet but the weather is very warm more so than any past year they tell us which is true everywhere in this part of the country our readers may recall our experience peri ence of being caught there in a three day deluge in the fall of 1938 and the experience of offsetting getting over the mountain at that time paradox friends say there ha has been no such rain since although they are looking forward to heavy rains soon to cool them off andl help their gardens along so ended another visit will be placed in our chest of memories |
