Show gains shown by F S A borrowers san juan county farm families who started the 1938 crop year as typical farm security tv administration borrowers end ended ed the year with more eggs in their baskets more milk foaming in their pails more meat and vegetables steaming on their tables and stored away and also somewhat better financially these are general conclusions of a survey made recently by david evans county supervisor who is in charge of his agen cys farm rehabilitation program in this district according to mr evans the economic progress made by local rehabilitation borrowers since they first came to farm security for help compares favorably with the ord cord of families surveyed ga ks short hort time ago in the united states as a whole this investigation showed that each family had gained an average of per cent in net worth while operating under farm and home management plans over and above all debts and their obligation to the government at the same time a large percentage of money owed on the rehabilitations loans was repaid even though most loans were made f for or a period of five years these facts are impressive especially ally when you consider that none of our borrowers was considered a sound credit risk by any other lending agency a short time ago mr evans says 1 I am even more impressed by sul 41 increase in production of vidales les and other foods for self maintain ence which is now emphasized pha sized by our farm security administration families higher living standards made possible by careful farm and home planning are only partly dependent upon increased cash income our local farmers are learning this truth more clearly every day to their benefit but the great savings made possible by home production of food for the family and feed for livestock can be measured in hard cash too as the increase in net worth of our borrowers is proving provin gl the national survey found that families farming under its program up to the end of 1938 had raised their average net worth in utah in arizona in california and in nevada the national average was and for all western states the farm security administration makes rehabilitation loans only to needy farmers who are unable to obtain adequate credit from any other source under a plan of supervised credit which promotes sound farming practices cost accounting and home management |
