Show Saltos gymnasts victorious ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO - The Saltos gymnasts from USA Gymnastics World are at it again. Last weekend at the Region 9 competitions held here, the Class 4 team captured first place with a score of 175.5, breaking break-ing the previous national record by a full three points. Leading the way for the Class 4 team was Adam Pettingill of Kays-ville, Kays-ville, who took first place in the all-around with a score of 59.0, tying the national all-around re cord. He scored two 9.9's and four 9.8's in the competition. Teammate Dan Erickson took third in all-around (58.1), Steve Williams was fifth (57.4) and Dave Mead was seventh (56.8). Others who qualified for the regional re-gional from the Class 4 team of Saltos were Roger Cheney, Josh Hitler, J.D. Lyon, Tyler Rock-wood, Rock-wood, Devin Smith, Jackson Hammond Ham-mond and Colton Lawrence. Coaches of the team are Chris Leech and Steve Voisland. Region 9 consists of Utah, Wyoming, Col orado and New Mexico, and is one of the toughest regions in the country. The Class 2 team from Saltos also won the all-around title, amassing amas-sing 162.2 points. Those placing in the all-around were Casey Brian, second with 54.6 points; Brian Mitchell, third with 54.6; Rob Kjar, fourth with 53.0; and Jodi Williams, Wil-liams, ninth with 46.9. In Class 3 competition, Saltos finished second behind the Gold Cup team of New Mexico, with 166.7. Those placing included Reid Holbrook, who tied for first in three events and finished second all-around at 56.0; and Dave Ashton, eighth all around with 54. 1 . Others qualifying for regional region-al were Trent Rockwood (53.2), Matt Hymas (52.2) and Ben Curtis (50.0). Each Class 3 gymnast from Saltos placed in the top 10 in at least one event. |
