Show WEST VS EAST I 1 why is the east so often favored at the expense of the I 1 west the writer believes the answer is simple and quite quit 1 e human i washington city the national capitol ea pitol is located in the i extreme eastern part of the country the president gov 1 eminent departments and bureaus are in daily contact with eastern bankers and manufacturers and indusi industries t ries of every kind all plugging for themselves and for the east and to heck with the west the east is more densely populated than the west and this predominating is being constantly exel exerted ted in the form of individual and pressure upon government officials in order that the government attitude may be favorable to the eastern eastel n viewpoint the west is more sparsely settled because it is newer country it has fewer of the great cities its vast plains are dotted with immense ranches and enormous cheat carmil farms and its factories are limited in comparison with the east the east has many small states each with the same representation in the senate as the great commonwealths commonwealth of the west in the house of representatives the east has more representatives because of its predominance in ill population the few senators and con congressmen ogress men from the west must battle continuously with this horde of lawmakers froix aroi 01 the east or go down in disaster in the enactment of national laws law and the south is in the same predicament as the west presidents and government officials are only human after all and it is not surprising that this constant wave of eastern pressure should have its effect especially when the west is far far away from the seat of government tho time is approaching when the national capitol should be moved from the east to a more centrally located city where it would be easil easily y accessible for all sections of the country and where the public ear car would be more easily reached and the needs and requirements of the various sections could be more readily understood because of closer and more frequent contact the east of course would howl itself into a spasm over ovel such a revolutionary suggestion but it must come sooner or later the and the south cannot forever submit to domination by a selfish eastern castern oligarchy |
