Show Spring Athletic Teams Start Practice Baseball Squad Begins Drills For All-Out Defense Of 1942 Diamond Crown . Gilbert Looks To Veterans to Bolster Championship Crew With uncertain weather prevailing prevail-ing and the promise of muddy grounds, spring baseball at South once again is coming into form. The first tryouts were held Wednesday with many of last year's men un-limbering un-limbering their arms in preparation for the coming season. Missing from last year's title squad will, be such men as "Slugger" "Slug-ger" Willie Stewart at the hot corner, Dick North at short, Ginny Earl at first, Don Davis and Bill Northrup in the outer gardens, and Macoy MacMurray, stellar pitcher. Southpaw Kent Peterson will again lead the mound squad, but the catcher's spot is wide open. Bob Story announced he wouldn't play. Jake Dalebout will be back at second and Leonard Trottier and "Spider" Woodward probably will be in the outfield. Two transfers from East fill m two vital spots in the Cub infield. Glen Standing will probably be in North's place at shortstop and Abe Berthold may hold down the first To round out the "mythical" starting nine we add the name of Paul Roberts in the outfield. Roberts Rob-erts is a fast man with plenty of promise. He has a good arm and can cover plenty of ground. . As always, some promising juniors jun-iors will spring up and may give those confident of starting positions a run for their money. Coach Gilbert Gil-bert keeps a weather eye out for those men. They form the nucleus of next year's team. In fact, they form the whole team, since few seniors will return. Since South has yet to win a Coach Jimmy Gilbert . . .
