Show Prune Flowering Shrubs; Remove Old Blooms, Limbs Most of the flowering shrubs have finished their blooming period for this year. Now is the time to prune them and remove any branches that seem to be half dead. Don't cut the branches off near the top, as you would four a hedge, but cut them off at the ground level. This will renovate and renew the bush. Remove all the old blooms from your lilac bushes. It takes a lot of energy for that bush to produce the seed pods which will appear. Then next year you will have a very scant crop of flowers. It seems that the lilacs cannot produce pro-duce a heavy crop of flowers and seeds every year. The seeds are of no value to you, so remove them, and allow the bush to spend its energy in developing wood for next years flowers. |
