Show HIGHLAND UNIT TO FIGHT STREET HOLES Elected as a board of directors for the Highland Village Association Associa-tion this week were Allen Coombs, Beau Brummel, president; Lester Johnson, Skillet, first vice president; presi-dent; Ken Lowery, Melo Freeze, second vice president, and Nadine Anderson, Granite Sheet Metal, secretary and treasurer. Directors are Ralph Gourlei, Jack Riley and Martha Stewart. The improvement of the street and other county roads in the vicinity vi-cinity was the first project on the agenda for the newly elected com-' com-' mittee. With the reduction of 50 per cent of the traffic on Highland Drive strip, due to street condition, immediate im-mediate action is necessary and Coombs said the improvement of the street and other county roads in the area depends on the bill proposed in the legislature house bill No. 117, which provides for establishment of improvement district dis-trict in the county as is provided in the city. The majority of property owners own-ers determine the decision on such programs as curb and gutters in the city while there is no such controlling legislation for county as it necessitates 100 per cent approval of property owners. The critical situation on Highland High-land Drive, the spokesman said, is a condition stemming from lack of drainage; which is dependent on curb and gutters. The state spends far more maintaining the Highland High-land Drive strip than it would cost to build a new street with curbs and gutters. |
