Ro llth East City 8 SUGAR HOUSE C OF C HONORS INDUSTRIES, PIONEER a PRESENT Sugar House, the cradle of the industrial intermountain west, this week through its chamber of commerce com-merce honored the industries of sou'heast Salt Lake. The observance, conducted at the Wednesday noon luncheon of the chamber, was coincident with the golden anniversary of the Utah Manufacturers Association. Pichard K. Foreman, vice presi- dent of the chamber, was in charge of the meeting and Dale R. Curtis, program chairman, directed the affair. More than 30 present-day industries indus-tries were cited, along with a baker's dozen of the old-time:s who drew their industrial power from old Parley's creek. Among the first industries in Sugar House in all the west 100 or more years ago, for that matter mat-ter were the old grist mill, the .,ugar beef factory, a paper mill providing the Deseret News with vewbpiinl, the ancient bucket, churn, tub and barrel factory, a nail factory, a woollen and carding plant, a cotton gin, a glass button factory, an iron foundry, a chemical chem-ical and powder works and a leather tannery. These pioneer industries were noted especially at the luncheon, and the chamber then gave the nod of grace to Grant Apparel Mfg. Co., Desseret Industries, Sugar Sug-ar House Awning, Hygeia Ice Co., Sugar House Press, Printers Inc., Interstate Brick Co., Buehner Concrete Con-crete Prod., UTOCO, Standard Oil Co., Utah-Idaho Sugar Co., Granite Gran-ite Mill & Fixture, Salt Lake Cab. & Fixture, Ray Nilson Furniture, Sunset Plastics Co. The Optical Shop, Dr. Blair Eric-son, Eric-son, Dr. Marvin Taylor, Snelgrove lee Cream, Nehi Beverage Co., VaLora Candy Co., Dunford Bakery, Bak-ery, Fritz Haertel, Geo. M. Kelly, Morrison Meat Pie Co., Spudnut Shop, Parry-Ogden-Parry, H. J. Brewster, N-Products Co., Rainbow Rain-bow Neon Sign Co., Fernwood Candy Co. UMA President A. R. Mickelsen and Ames K. Bagley, secretary, were presented as guests of honor. |
