Show GREAT TURKEY SHOW TO FEATURE BIRDS Featuring dressed turkeys, the sixth annual Utah Turkey show will "kill two birds with one stone" on December 11 and 12 at the New-house New-house Hotel. It will carry an appeal to the tiirkp-v indnstrv and tn thp pnn- Federation, will exhibit the latest developments in turkey processing and merchandising, including birds processed under the new "high suming public. According to Gordon E. Neff, Crescent, manager, the turkey show will carry the theme "The turkey of tomorrow, today." In ad- dition to the regular open and junior exhibits and judging, the show will display packs of various Utah turkeys, including cut up turkey and smoked turkey, and will future consumer exhibits of turkey grades. There will be no breed classifications classifi-cations nor live turkey entries in this year's show, said Neff. Only eviscerated birds, classified by weight, will be entered in the open division. The junior division will featuce New York dressed birds (head, feet, and viscera not removed). re-moved). Entries for heaviest bird of the show will be New York dressed, also. Cooperating with the turkey industry, in-dustry, the radio stations, two tele- scald" method which practically eliminates pinfeathers. On display at the show will be several of the leading turkey packs produced in the state. Also the new pre-cut turkey pack featuring featur-ing pieces of turkey for cut-up turkey cookery will be displayed and explained. Neff said this new pack was introduced in-troduced this fall into Utah by the Utah Turkey Federation under the direction of Dail A. Prows, Salina president. The pre-cut pack, consisting con-sisting of one large torn turkey cut into its 16 natural parts, is excellent for frozen food lockers and home freezers where consumers consum-ers wish to have turkey-by-the-piece for variety cookery. It was primarily developed for the institutional insti-tutional kitchen using the new poaching-simmering cookery which saves time and meat for restaurants, restau-rants, hotels, hospitals and others. vision stations, ana newspapers j have pledged suppor and coverage on one of the greatest shows of the year, which will tie in with the East-More-Turkey campaign to make the public more conscious of turkey as a year-around meat. Neff said the two day show, conducted jointly with the annual convention of the Utah Turkey Judging of this year's turkey show will be done by Melvin Lovelace Love-lace of Dinuba, Calif., a nationally recognized turkey breeder and judge. Judging will be according to weight, body depth, length of keel, width of breast, width of back and shoulders, and general market appearance. Weight classifications in the open d i v i sion, featuring eviscerated birds, include hens under 12 pounds; -12 to 15 pounds, and over 15 pounds. Eviscerated torn classi-' fications are under 20 pounds to 26 pounds, and over 26 pounds. Judging of the junior division will be the same as for the open division, although there are only two clasificatios for each sex; light and heavy birds. All hens under 14 pounds and all toms under un-der 26 pounds will be considered light. One of the featured events of the convention and show is the presentation pres-entation of Dr. Charles Karsokoff, "world traveled and humorist," whose subject will be entitled "Behind "Be-hind the Iron Curtain." Dr. Karsokoff Kar-sokoff will be featured during the evening of December 12 at the federation's fed-eration's annual turkey banquet. Climaxing the first day of the show will be buffet dinner in honor of ' buyers and the junior exhibitors. At that time the top birds of the show will be auctioned off. Neff said that completed entry forms from show exhibitors must be post-marked no later than December De-cember 5. Entries will be received on December 10 at the poultry plant of Utah Poultry and Farmers cooperative, Salt Lake City. Chairman Chair-man of. the turkey show is Marion Olsen, Paradise. Anson B.
