Show SCOUTS LAUNCH JAL1S0R2E DRIVE TO'ilGHT A drive to recruit 1300 Boy Scouts from Utah, 500 of them from the Great Salt Lake council, to attend the third National Jamboree in Santa Ana, Cal., July 17-23, 1953, will be launched tonight to-night at 8 o'clock at South high school. Dr. E. Allen Bateman. newly appointed ap-pointed chairman, council recruiting recruit-ing and promotion committee, said 50,000 scouts will erect a tent city on the 3,000 acre Irvine ranch near Santa Ana. He estimated members of the jamboree would pitch approximately ap-proximately 30,000 tents. All applications from scouts should be sent to Scout Headquarters, Head-quarters, Red Feather building, 112 South State. All Scoutmasters and Explorer advisers are urged to attend tonight. to-night. The Salt Lake council plans to recruit 1G troops, which includes 3S persons per troop, including a scoutmaster and two assistants, said Dr. Bateman. D. E. Hammond, retired council executive secretary, and general chairman of the council jamboree committee, said a jamboree chairman chair-man is being chosen from each of the 3S districts in the Salt Lake council. Dr. Bateman has chosen on his committee, John D. Giles, James A. Giles, Herbert K. Kretchman and Frank B. McLatchy. Vernon E. Proctor has been named chairman of the transportation transporta-tion committee; Ross Ramsey, program pro-gram chairman; Wilford A. Robinson, Robin-son, equipment chairman, and Dr. George R. Hill, chairman, host committee. |
