St. Nick Whizzed In Via Helicopter Saturday to Greet Hundreds of Kids Santa Claus, strictly on time . . . the hour of 2 p.m., landed in Sugar House on the Plaza, Saturday and was greeted by throngs of eager youngsters and oldsters. Boarding a sporty convertible, soon after his arrival, Santa rode through the streets of Sugar House, visited with the small fry along the way that took him from the Plaza through the business district dis-trict and back to Santa's House in Sugar House. The rotund, jolly old Saint, decked deck-ed out in his traditional red and white suit, with his snowy beard, -shook hands with hundreds and greeted the kiddies with hearty hellos. It was easy to see, as the helicopter heli-copter hovered over the crowd, that all eyes were on Santa, and he responded with his usual cheery greetings. Newel Brown, Christmas chairman chair-man and his committee, and D. James Cannon, chamber of commerce com-merce executive secretary, made arrangements for Santa's flight into Sugar House. Sugar House Police Force must be commended for the fino job of policing traffic, for the event. Capt. Lee and officers Joe Bank, Sgt. Milligan and Clark Sanford, traffic division, and eight of his men, were on hand to direct the traffic, which was handled in a well organized fashion with no incidents. Festooned with bright greenery and each utility pole marked with a colorful candy cane, Sugar House business area had taken on a holiday holi-day air for the old gents arrival. Much credit and appreciation goes to Rainbow Neon Sign and Apex Electric for their able assistance assist-ance in the decorating program. |
