Show I' "4 I si , " '( ,3 Steven L. Richards Sugar House New Radio Station KWIC Plans Oct. Opening The nine foot thick cement base for KWIC's 230 foot radio tower is being poured and set this week in the rear of their Wilmington Ave. studios. When finished about the middle of October the tower will be topped by a flashing airplane beacon that will identify Sugar House throughout the entire valley and also to national planes and passengers as they wing their way from coast to coast over the air routes. All is hustle and bustle at the tower site with a great hole about 35 feet square and rune feet deep ready to receive the concrete for ripening. Next week the first section sec-tion of the tower will be affixed to the base and from then on giant cranes will set one section upon another for a quick completion of the job. The steel sections are made on the ground then hoisted and fastened into place. Under the dynamic supervision of Mr. Howard Pingree, ably assisted by his manager Mitzi Bailey, the whole operation is tak-(Continued tak-(Continued on Page 2) Radio Station (Continued from Page 1) ing on a finished look. The inviting entrance is beautifully carpeted and the foyer tastefully arranged ' with modernistic furniture. Their is a quiet harmonious blend of carpet, drape and furniture in Mr. Pingree's office, Studios, news room and control are rapidly taking tak-ing shape. Heavy new soundproof doors are being installed. Seated in the midst of great toy stuffed lions, and zebras, many radio sets, women's winter coats and what-have-you Mr. Pingree announced that there would be a great contest as a part of the publicity drive heralding the opening of the station and that folks should watch the newspaper and Sugar House store windows for further announcements and displays of prizes. KWIC's policy will be to have a station to which the entire family can listen at any time without the slightest offense. Music will be from the old familiar albums, the modern melody without resort to the disonant bizarre off-beat presentations. pres-entations. News will feature happenings hap-penings concerning Southeast and east bench events. Operation should begin around the middle of October. Meanwhile those who keep their eye on KWIC's tower, as it goes up, will keep abreast of happenings at Sugar House, Southeast's newest landmark. |
