HER CAREER began at the age of five when she started taking tak-ing music lessons and then en-modeling, en-modeling, working for a wholesale whole-sale dress house at 325 a week. . This led to a modeling position with Hattie Carnegie. JUST AS SHE was gaining recognition as a model, she was critically injured in an automobile automo-bile accident in Central Park. Tnld she never would walk again, she recovered after elgnl months in bed and three years of painful effort to regain me use of her legs. BACK TO WORK again, she was featured in magazine ana hillboard advertisements which brought her to the attention of Hollywood. She played a showgirl show-girl in Eddie Cantor's "Roman Scandals" and then Columbia Pictures contracted her as a STrvk player. HARD LUCK dashed her nones whe nt.he studio dissolved its stock, company and she went fn work as an extra for Paramount. Para-mount. She did bit parts with little nromise of a future until .she was cast in a substantial role in "Roberta." RKO OFFICIALS, impressed by her part in this picture, gave her a contract. She player) the sppnnd lead in "The Girl from Paris," which caught Broau-way's Broau-way's attention and drew an ol-fpr ol-fpr for a lead in the musical "Hey. Diddle, Diddle." RETURNING to Hollvwooc. she appeared in "Stage Door" and "Too Many Girls." In tne latter picture, she was co-starred with Bandleader Desi Arnas whom she married on Nov. 30 1940 HER FIRST BIG BREAK came in the films when she was cast in "The Big Street." based on a story by Damon Runyor.. Overnight, it made her a star. MGM signed her to a rich contract con-tract on her birthday in 1942. AFTER APPEARING in MOM's "DuBarry Was a Lady," she had stellar roles in "Best Foot Forward," "Meet the People" Peo-ple" and "Easy to Wed." Upon cnm.nlet.ionv nf "Her Husband's Affairs" she went on tour as star of Elmer R i c. e's play "Dveam Girl " A FAVORITE guest star op top Hollywood radio dramatic programs, she launched' CBS' "My Favorite Husband" as a one-shot presentation on July 5, 1948. The show was so successful success-ful that it began as a series on July 23, 1948. 1 "My Favorite Husband," she plays Liz Cooper, an often scatterbrained but really real-ly down-to-earth wife of a local banker.
