MOFFITT By Carl Springman Report on Jan. 19, Meeting The regular meeting of Sugar House Post No. 65 of the American Amer-ican Legion was held Thursday, Jan 9, 1947, in the Rockastle convening at 8:15 p.m. under the direction of Commander Donald T. McDonald. The colors col-ors were posted by Sgt.-at-Arms Benjamin F. Higbee, assisted by Comrade William Lehman. A motion, made by Comrade Husbands, that the members accept ac-cept the appointment made by executive committee of Comrade Thomas Hawkes to fill the unexpired un-expired term in the executive committee of Comrade Phil Heil-but Heil-but was passed. First Vice Commander Rulon McGhie reported on the initiation initia-tion and installation of officers at the Air Base Post No. 102 on Jan. 8, Sugar House Post No. 65 furnished their initiation lamp for the ceremony. The Smith Faus Drug Company Com-pany employes of whom Comrade Com-rade Walter Sturgell is a member mem-ber furnished a generous amount of items for (he packages, and these together with the gifls donated by members of Suar House Post were made into 204 packages which were delivered to the Veterans hospital and the Christmas package .committee distributed them to all veterans on Christmas Eve. Second Vice Commander Max Young reported to the members on plans for recreation. He also talked in favor of forming the American Legion club for Sugar House Post No. 65 which would enable us to make sufficient funds to pay for our Legion Home. Comrade Nelson, past .commander .com-mander of Bennion Post No. 83, visited the meeting representing represent-ing the Lions club of Salt Lake. He advised the members regarding regard-ing the "Passion Play" which was being presented for the first time here, and asked for the support of Sugar House Post in attending the play. Comrade Clifford Husbands reported re-ported on the full military funeral fu-neral held for Claude Donaldson. Donald-son. All participants were members mem-bers of 'the drum and bugle corps of Sugr- Housea Post No. 65. Comrade Lyman Sherwod advised ad-vised that the housing committee commit-tee would meet with the city commisison on Thursday, Jan. 16, to request an extensjon of time for the use of the $1000 in escrow for our Legion Home. Commander McDonald appointed appoint-ed Comrade Ben Waterfield to the committee with Comrade Sherwood. Our guest speaker was Mr. West a member of the tax research re-search committee appointed by the governor who talked on the problems of our pubile schools. Chaplain Howard Bringhurst reported on visits to the hospital, hospit-al, and Comrade Husbands advised ad-vised that the new visiting hours at the Vets hospital were 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Sunday, and 7:15 to 8:15 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and that the Legion was requested re-quested to make their visits at times other than the regular visiting hours. |
