It is the friendly nickname "Bert" His pals are legion and all assert as-sert He is the real genial sort And part of the town's life and sport. His other and longer name is Smoot But his horn you ne'er heard him toot: He is a modest kind of man In every type of club or clan And is wholly void of pretence pre-tence But he has loads of common sense. He makes no boast of pious crede But worships with his generous gener-ous deed: He never did have any foes.
