Show Indian Scout Dies HOT SPRINGS, S. D. Ben Ash, age' 95, pioneer South Dakota Indian In-dian scout, peace officer and cattleman, cattle-man, died here recently at the State Soldiers' home. Ash served as wagon wag-on master for General Custer and as an Indian scout during the Messiah Mes-siah war from 1889 to 1890 in western west-ern South Dakota. Earlier he had been a deputy U. S. marshal at Pierre and was sheriff of Hughes county. He operated a cattle ranch on the Moreau river in Perkins county for many years. Ash was credited with building the first house on the site of Bismarck, N. D. |
