Show Utah Makes Ready For Greatest 24th In State's History and must be descendants of Utah Pioneers who came to Utah before May 10, 1869. It is not necessary that the contestants be born in Utah. The contest closes July 4, and the choosing of the queen will be at the Hotel Ho-tel Utah, July 5, at 8:30 p.m". Princess Contestants must be between the ages of 16 and 17. This contest also closes July 4. and the choosing of the princess will be at the Hotel Utah July 5, at 3:15 p.m. Selection of the (queen and princess on July 5 will be the opening event in the annual celebration of Days of '47 here this year, according to the official lineup how being put in final form by the committee. This event will be followed on the 16th by the coronation ceremonies cere-monies at the state capitol, and chat same evening the Rotunda of the capitol will be the scene of a grand pioneer ball, staged by the Sons of Utah Pioneers. The public is invited to participate par-ticipate in this event, and prizes will be awarded for best male aostume, best female costume, and best costumed couple, according ac-cording to Harold H. Jenson, state president of the SUP. Meanwhile, mtiny of the local letter carriers and a large number num-ber lof members of the SUP are already cultivating their whiskers whisk-ers for the annual beard contest which will be a part of the general festivities. Sugar House is to have , some sort of specihl program here during the week of the 24th, but details have not yet been worked out. It is' certain, however, how-ever, that a number of southeast girls will be entered in the queen and pj-incess contests. A special children's costume parade Js scheduled for Wednesday, Wed-nesday, July 17th, and the rodeo at the fairgrounds will hold forth from the 17th to the 22nd. A concert at the tabernacle and special church services hrough-out hrough-out the city will mark Sunday, July 21, and a great pioneer pageant has been slated for July 23 and 24. "On" the" morning Of the 4th sunrise services will be held, and the concluding event of the day will be the annual an-nual parade, starting at the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young monument, and going go-ing to Liberty park. This event promises V be the greatest in the history of the celebration, according to Joseph L. Chandler, parade chairman. It's main theme will be the building of Utah industries, and hundreds of firms and institutions already huve expert float-makers engaged en-gaged on their entries. In addition addi-tion there will be the queen and princess floats, numerous bands, pioneer floats, and several mounted troops and sheriffs' posses from around the state. Daughetrs of the Pioneer camps are cooperating in preparing for the event, and are stimulating entries in the queen and princess contests. Queen contestants must be between the ages of IS and 25, |
