Those members in attendance were treated to a triple banquet. The meeting was held at "Andy's" and I can and will say without fear of contradiction that it was one of the finest, if not the finest, dinner that has ever been served to the club since it was organized. Some of the Lions may feel that it was just getting us off to a good start in our newly-found eating establishment, but, I overheard "Andy" make the remark re-mark to our president, Arch Al-dous Al-dous ,that we could expect every meal to be as good, if not better, than the one served at this meeting. Our entertainment chairman, Lion Joe "Jerry Col-ona" Col-ona" Mallory came up with some fine dinner music. Lion Joe brought along two of his friends to entertain us. At this point in the program service awards were made to our ex-servicemen, Lions Harold Thomas and Paul Manwaring. Lion Ferris Andrus was absent. Certificates were given to Past President Web Richards, Past Secretary Roy Hobbs and to Past Treasurer S. C. Caddie. At this point in the evening's festivities fes-tivities the meeting was turned over to our district governor, Lloyd M. Theurer, who was making his annual visit as district dis-trict governor to our club. To you Lions who were present I need not say a thing, as words could not convey the message and the spirit that Governor Lloyd gave us at that time. His comments on attendance, punctuality, punc-tuality, activity, and the sharing of this Lionism work is something some-thing that will be long remembered. remem-bered. To those who missed the address of Governor Theurer I would like to steal just a few of his remarks: "Let us find our task in life and assign ourselves to it." "We cannot afford not to be in attendance." "We cannot can-not afford not to be punctual. " "Let us not be selfish with this spirit of Lionism let us share it with others." To you, Governor Gov-ernor Lloyd, may I express the sincere appreciation of our club for an outstanding address and feel free to visit us at any time. After District Governor Theu-rer's Theu-rer's address President Arch presented pre-sented him with a plaque as a small token of our esteem, that he might always remember us. Prior to the regular meeting Governor Theurer met with the members of the board of directors direct-ors and in reporting on this I would like to say that he left with the board some very fine ideas and suggestions that will be a big help in strengthening our club. Our congratulations to Lion and Lioness Allen Terry on the arrival of a new boy Monday, Oct. 14, also to Lion and Lioness Wen Livingston on the birth of a daughter also on Monday the 14th. Lion Norm Berndt, chairman of annual fall festival, gave us a report on the progress being made for this event. For the benefit of those not present we wish to report that "The Annual Fall Festival Dance" will be held at the Newhouse Hotel Thursday, Oct. 31, and that each member of the club is expected to use or sell not less than two tickets to this event. Lion Norm has arranged for some swell prizes to be given away. Among the rumors that I have heard there will be nylons, flat irons, a satin blanket, made by the auxiliary, and to quote one member, plenty of "hot" or hard to get items. Plan now to be there. Tickets will be mailed to the members in the next day or so. |
