Improve Parking Areas Main aims of the Parking and Traffic sub-committee are to build new and improve old parking areas, and to clear up present traffic bottlenecks through application of scientific methods. One of the phases of beauti-fication beauti-fication will be the cleaning up and improvement of highway 40 at the request of Mayor Earl J. Glade. The Sugar House Lions club has been asked by the chamber to assist in.-this task. The widening of Highland Drive frorA 21st South to Wilmington Wil-mington Ave. and the repair of 21st South have been planned by the Street Maintenance group. New "White Way" The subject of Street Lighting Light-ing is being studied presently by the Utah Power & Light Two new fire stations, new parking facilities, street widening widen-ing and lighting were promised Sugar House residents this week in an announcement made by the local chamber of commerce public affairs committee headed head-ed by Grant Midgley, chairman, and John C. Barnes, vice chairman. chair-man. "The time for action is upon us," Mr. Barnes said. "We are now far enough along in the postwar era to get needed supplies sup-plies and equipment, ample funds should be available, we are living in prosperous times, and a great need exists for community improvement. There is no excuse for failure to solve our problems and make Sugar House an attractive, desirable place in which to live and do business." According to Mr. Midgley and Mr. Barnes there will be six sub-committees under the central cen-tral public affairs committee, each of which will have a specific spe-cific program to complete. Committee Members Committee members named so far to staff the central and subcommittees sub-committees are: A. E. Press, secretary, sec-retary, Less Taylor, Lt. Charles Larsen, Horace B. Richards, Horace A. Sorensen, Willard Richards, R. W. Madsen, Jr., C. G. White, Lincoln Hansen. and Clarence Rockwood. Under the heading of Public Safety plans have been set forth : providing for a new fire station sta-tion at 27th So. and 13th East. Another fire station will be built at 21st So. and 9th East as soon as final arrangements are made. When completedL.th is ...ney station sta-tion will house the personnel and equipment of the present Company which has promised a comprehensive report within a month on the creation of an ornamental, "white way" lighting light-ing system throughout Sugar House. The sixth sub-comm,ittee was recently formed to accomplish passage of the Prison site- State park bill. The function of this committee will be to spearhead the organization of a state foundation foun-dation which will handle finan-ses finan-ses of this development. The job of planning the state park comes under the State Department Depart-ment ..Qf. -Publicity ..and . Industrial Indus-trial Development, headed by Aaron Tracy. ' |
