Paramount heart-warming film version of the best-seller by Augusta Tucker Tuck-er opens today at the Mario theater with Sonny Tufts, Veronica Ver-onica Lake and newcomer Joan Caulfield co-starred. It also brings a popular veteran actress act-ress back to the screen. Lillian Gish plays the proprietress of a boarding house for young medical medi-cal students and "Miss Susie Slagle's" is the story of these students their trials and tribulations tribu-lations .their hopes and fears and loves. Miss Caulfield is a graceful blonde wih an unusually engaging engag-ing personality. In "Miss Susie Slagle's" Joan plays the part of a young charmer who falls in love and employes all her feminine femi-nine wiles to hook the man of her heart, portrayed by Sonny-Tufts. Sonny-Tufts. In doing so, she wins the hearts of those in the movie audience as well, for Joan Caulfield Caul-field is an ingratiating perform-j er. Sonny Tufts has his first dramatic role as the doctor who is overwhelmed by the fear of seeing death. Sonny's portrayal is certainly a convincing one and should lead to more dramatic dra-matic parts. Veronica Lake also reveals her more serious side as the lovely nurse who falls in love with Phelan. "Miss Susie Slagle's" is, a stirring story of young doctors I in the making, beautifully told. |
