Show j around the COR N SUGAR HOUSE E With the Editor J Add Thriving Sugar House Industries: In-dustries: The angle worm-night worm-night crawler trust which oper- I ates throughout the section, but especially on both sides of the main stem leading into Parley's j canyon. There are hundreds of ! young worm merchants hawking their slimy merchandise to an- j xious anglers bound for the ' hills,- and the ingenuity and originality or-iginality of their selling meth- ods is something to behold. We ' succumbed to the blandishments of one go-getter who displayed a placard "Educated Night Crawlers," but got negligible results re-sults though the erudite inverte-' brales seemed to be doing their , I part. j That's not. buried treasure they're digging for under the steps of the library just a sunken water spring that's 1 gradually undermining Ihe j building's foundations. I5e- ing the bed of the old can-' can-' yon stream, this section is full of subterranean channels; and some of the old timers 1 have wondered that there haven't been more foundation founda-tion troubles. I Had the privilege Wednesday I night, along jwith a lot of other folks, of seeing one of the most beautiful homes in the southeast section, the new residence of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace L. (Bub) Smith, at 2265 Country Club Dr. (Went through the East High school with Bub many years ago, i and graduated from the River-; River-; side, class of '18, with Mrs. Bub, (in those days Melva Burbtdge). This house, a handsome red brick colonial right on the cor--nerand- placed-diagonally,. commands com-mands beautiful views of . the valley in every direction. And inside, well it's something to dream about. There's just about everything a home-owner could j desire. The Smiths told us they'd 1 been planning the place for about 15 years snipping ideas and hints from magazines and jotting down notes on things that appealed to them in other people's peo-ple's Jhouses and now they have just what they want. After their lovely reception Wednesday, they left with a party of other Sugar House Lions and Lion-nesses Lion-nesses for the state convention at Cedar City. Whe Dr. Ralph B. Cloward introduced in-troduced himself as a visiting i Rotarian from Honolulu at the I regular Sugar House Rotary I meeting a week ago, we thought the name sounded familiar, but it was not until later we recalled recall-ed that he was one of 'the real heroes of the Pearl Harbor disaster.. dis-aster.. A prominent brain sur-1 sur-1 geon, Dr. Cloward worked tire-i tire-i lessly for days and nights par-j par-j ing for the wounded, and was credited with saving many lives, j Dr. and Mrs. Cloward are visit- ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. j Herman L. Bauer, 2626 Highland I Dr. Post 65, American Legion, was right on the ball on flag (day, ijune 14, running up Old Glory ' on the plaza pole, and retiring her with due honors at sunset. Our other veterans' group is in the limelight these days too. Sugar Su-gar House Post 3586, Veterans of Foreign Wars, under the com-mandership com-mandership of Dr. Don . C.
