Show DOING THE TOWN By Elaine Cannon Talk about a good idea . . . Mr. and Mrs. Wendell J. Ashton, 22-15 Oneida, decided to have a lawn party and invited some friends over to hear the Louis-Walcott fight at the same time. They set it for Wednesday then changed it to Thursday . . , and at the very last minute the fight was postponed once more. But that didn't dampen the spirits of the party goers any. They had a wonderful time playing croquet, other fun games and just talking. Guests were served a buffet supper and two items on the menu caused considerable excited comment . . . the freezer of homemade home-made ice cream and the home-made root beer. Guest list included -such southeasterners as Mr. and Mrs. Clark Stohl, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Ashton, Jack Boud and Wilma Hunter. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Booth, 1233 Parkway, were on the entertaining beat this week, too. They served refreshments refresh-ments to Bob and Margaret Kichaids, Peg and Les Hewitt, Hew-itt, Bob and Isabel Ward, Kherm and Henrietta Voting, Mont and Edna Fae Rich- Oat-ds. Edna Fae left Tuesday with her daughter, Sharon, for Balboa Beach, Calif. She w ill join her parents, Mr. and , Msr. J. li. Firmage, who drove down earlier in the week with the Richards' son, Monty. They'll vacation there for a month or so at the Firmage beach home. Talk about your steak dinners . . pine trees . . . and gay fun . . . the Sugar House Chapter, Sons of Utah Pioneers staged a really fine affair with those features fea-tures Monday evening at the Spruces in Big Cottonwood. Be-liind Be-liind the grills doing the heavies with the steaks were those hardworking hard-working big-wigs in the chapter, chap-ter, Dick Lambert, group president presi-dent Dave Evans i and George Biesinger Their wives were on hand to help with the serving and such, too. Mayor and Mrs. Earl J. Glade honored the crowd with their presence and the may-Jor may-Jor gave some very interesting remarks in his own inimitable way and won the plaudits of the group . . . Francis Urry's readings read-ings were given proper appreciation appreci-ation also. The attractive Mrs. Urry came with her husband. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Ludwig, Mr. and Mrs. Joe McEwan, Mr. and Mrs. Harry N. Poll, newlyweds Marv and Carol Curis (Marv was Em Cee) . . . Elbert Curtis and Ray Alston chatted by the fire . . . Earl Palmer . . . Lee Nebeker . . . Mr. and Mrs. Jay Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. L. Clair Likes brought their new son and little girl along for the fun. Three old friends had a pleasant reunion at luncheon lunch-eon this week when some out-of-towners came back to Salt Lake for a visit The noon-hour celebration was enjoyed by Mrs. LaMar Bu-salli, Bu-salli, Mrs. Edwin James, wife of the mayor of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Mrs. Ether Swapp of Overton, New, who is the former Genieve Reiser of Salt Lake. ' . Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Moyle Burton and two of their children chil-dren have been vacationing in the Norhwest for the past two weeks or so. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Erickson took care of the Moyle youngest child during the vacation. vaca-tion. Tonight several of Salt Lake's young married set will meet at the Beau Brum-mel Brum-mel for dinner . . . Mr. and Mrs. Jack Adamson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle M. Ward, Dr. and , Mrs. Joseph Tanner, Dr. and Mrs. Elvon G. Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. J. Allen Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Clawson, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Haynes, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jo-seph B. Wlrthlin. It's so good to have Dr. and Mrs. Edward McKay home from their long stay in Pennsylvania. Ed and Lottie (Lund) will be home for good now while Ed finishes fin-ishes the last two years of his proctology training at the LDS hospital. They have a two-year-old daughter who is with them. They are staying with President Presi-dent and Mrs. David 0. McKay at present. Mr. and Mrs. Rod O'Connor O'Con-nor are here from their Los Angeles, Calif., home. They are the honse-guests of Mrs. S. Q. Cannon who is Mrs. O'Connor's mother. Young Ricky is with his mother and father and is busily gel-ting gel-ting acquainted with all of his cousins here. There was a big family party Thursday Thurs-day evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Cannon, 2513 S. 14th East. Among those present . . . Mr. and Mrs. J. W. R. Robinson and Joan and David. They are living out on Zenith Ave. now and so belong on the Southeastern Roster for sure . . . Mr. and Mjrs. Wayne F. Richards and Barbara and Judy . . . Mrs. S. Q. Cannon and of course the Julian Cannon children were there, too . . . Marilyn, Mari-lyn, Darrell, Leigh, Shawna and the new baby brother. We've . ben waiting to hear what the name of the baby is but we couldn't keep . it any longer . . . Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Burton have a darling girl born last week in Philadelphia, Pa., where Art is doing advanced medical training work. Grandparents Grand-parents in Salt Lake .are Mr. and Mrs. J. Loa Decker and Mrs. A. T. Burton. The new Another is the former Betty Lou Decker. |
