Show Emergency Unit Saves Five Lives During Month of June Local Police Make Seven Calls During First Month of Resuscitator's Installation In their first month as proprietors of the new resuscita-tor-emergency equipment, Sugar House policemen on the emer- gency squad set all sorts of rec-cords. rec-cords. They answered seven calls, five of which were successful. suc-cessful. (When the life-saving equipment was turned over to the local police at the first of the month, one official stated that the equipment would be called into use "at least ten times the first year.") Time intervals between receipt of the call and the arrival of the men and equipment on the scene has been amazing. One call was made in 30 seconds. Longest time recorded re-corded was seven minutes. Two Calls Fatal Of the seven emergency calls made this month five have resulted re-sulted in saved lives. Two persons per-sons died. Four of the emergency emer-gency cases were adults, three children. Three of the adult emergency calls were for heart attack victims, vic-tims, one for childbirth. The children were suffering from choking disorders. Two of the calls made by. the local ambulance ambu-lance necessitated transporting the patients to a hospital. Record Time "I am astonished at the time the officers are making on these emergency calls," Lt Charles J. Larson, Sugar House substation substa-tion chief said. Larson stated that these periods of time merely indicate the time elapse between receipt of the call over the ambulance radio and the arrival of the emergency vehicle at the victim's vic-tim's side. Distances are not mentioned. In many cases the ambulance had to race many blocks to the scene of emergency. Lions Gratified "We feel sure that the Sugar House Lions are gratified for the good work the equipment they donated is doing,'' Lt Larson said. Last May the local Lions turned over a check for S450 to the public safety department for the purchase of the resusci-tator resusci-tator equipment. The equipment equip-ment was installed and turned over to the local department on June 4. |
