Show Soren Sorensen Career Ends at 72 ( . j . . SOREN C. SORENSEN The Sugar House community this week mourned the passing of one of its most prominent citizens. Soren Christian Sorensen, Sor-ensen, 72, passed away Sunday of a cerebral hemorrhage. Burial Bur-ial was at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Me-morial Park, following funeral ceremonies held in the University Univer-sity LDS Ward chapel Wednes- d3president of the South East Furniture Company, Mr. Sorensen Soren-sen continued actively in that capacity until he was stricken July 14. Since he founded the furniture company 23 years ago with his son, Horace A-, the words "south east" have become synonymous with this section of the city. His role in the bus-ness bus-ness and civic life of this community com-munity has been one of noteworthy note-worthy achievement. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mr. Sorensen has served on the Church welfare general board, the Old Folks' committee, as a high councilman council-man for the Emigration Stake and as a member of the University Uni-versity Ward. Store Founder Mr. Sorensen and his son, Horace Ho-race A. Sorensen, founded the O Sugar House furniture store nearly 23 years ago. He has since been associated with several sev-eral business concerns in Utah and throughout the intermoun-tain intermoun-tain area. For 10 years he was associated with the Strevell - Paterson Hardware Company. He also " was associated with the Din- woodey Furniture Company and served as district represen-" represen-" tative for the Malleable Iron Range Company of Wisconsin. He was born July 29, 1875, in Denmark, a son of Peter Christian Chris-tian and Anna Madsen Sorensen. Soren-sen. He came to the United States with his parents in 1883. Thev settled in Ephraim and he lived there until 1922. He was married to Lillie Anderson An-derson in the Manti Temple in 1897. While in Ephraim he served serv-ed in the bishopric of the North Ward. Survivors, in addition to his widow, include seven sons and daughters, Horace A., S. Morgan, Mor-gan, J. Gordon and S. Calvin Sorensen, Mrs. Harve P. Anderson, Ander-son, Mrs. William T. Stucki and Mrs. Albert E. Noall, all of Salt Lake City; two brothers, Walter Walt-er Sorensen, Ephraim, and Hyrum Hy-rum Sorensen, Salt Lake City; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Rasmus-sen Rasmus-sen and Mrs. Stena Hansen, both of Salt Lake City; 22 grandchildren. grand-children. Three of his grandchildren grand-children are at present serving as missionaries for the Church. Funeral services were conducted con-ducted Wednesday in the University Uni-versity LDS Ward under the direction of Bishop Lynn S. Richards. |
