Show Clubs Rent Land To Prevent Floods Action to prevent possible "flash" floods on the Sugar House area was taken this week when the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce board of directors voted to split the rental cost with the Sugar House Lions Club of a strip of land east of this area. Following advice of U. S. Forest Service officials that the land is a potential flood hazard if allowed to be used for grazing sheep, the two Sugar House civic groups have rented it so that grass and vegetation veg-etation will grow, thus lessening lessen-ing the flood danger. The area which was formerly used for grazing sheep is east of Wasatch boulevard from 21st South to Parleys Canyon road. A flood originating in this vicinity vic-inity would cause considerable damage in the newly-developing residential and commercial sections sec-tions in that part of Sugar House. The Lions Club, under the leadership of Wendell L. Cottrell, Cott-rell, paid the rent in 1946-47, but this year asked for the support sup-port of the S. H. Chamber. |
