Show S. H. 'Mayor1 Celebrates 81st Birthday Nephi J. Hansen, 1187 Fifteenth Fif-teenth East, "mayor of Sugar House," went to his office Monday Mon-day and began a full week of work. It made little difference to Mr. Hansen that Monday was x his 81st birthday. Mr. Hansen, veteran Sugar House businessman, once attended at-tended school in a log house near the site of many of his present interests. As a young man he came to the Sugar House area. He has Deen in business there since. Born on Farm Born Dec. 5, 1868, on a Salt Lake County farm, he is a son of Peter and Rosina Jenne Hansen. Han-sen. During his early life he worked on the farm and later attended the old University of Deseret. Returning from a mission to England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he married Laura Free in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Shortly afterward he entered the general gen-eral mercantile business at Highland Drive and 33rd South, During his long life Mr. Hansen Han-sen has watched many ventures prosper. But one has yet to reach fulfillment. In 1921 as a state representative, he introduced intro-duced the first bill to have the state prison removed from Sugar House. That has not yet been accomplished. Business Enterprises Mr. Hansen established Granite Gran-ite Lumber and Hardware Co. bpfnrp 1900 and operated the business until about 13 years ago. He also organized and headed the Sugar Banking Co., Granite Furniture Co., Hygeia Ice Co., Hansen Auto Co., Builders Build-ers Finance, and Granite Holding Hold-ing Co. He has served on the board of governors of the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Metropolitan Metropoli-tan Water Board. For many years he was a member of the advisory board of the state road commission. Mr. Hansen still is active in the affairs of Granite Holding Co. He has five sons, Clyde F., Lewis F., William L., and Lincoln Lin-coln T. Hansen, Salt Lake City, and Clifton F. Hansen, Pasadena, Pasa-dena, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. G. M. Southwick and Mrs. Sid-ney Sid-ney J. Nebeker, Salt Lake City; 22 grandchilldren, and eight great-grandchildren. |
