Show Hovel Clock Performs Many Tasks SPARTANBURG. S. C. Made about 1880, a four-faced clock still ticks away here keeping time, charting movements of the moon nd sun, and incidentally telling Jime keeping track of days and months all on a master wheel rotating ro-tating once every 13 years. The clock was the creation of Daniel Dan-iel Davis, who used crude tools to cut its wheels, gears and cabinet in oij small cabin in the Carolina mountains. One face records the 24 hour progress of the sun. Another charts the course and phases of the moon. A third tells the day and month, even allowing for the extra leap year day. The fourth face performs a clock's ordinary timekeeping duty. I R. O. Davis, grandson of the skilled maker, now owns the novel gadset, which holds a place of honor in his home. j |
