Show STATE HEALTH REPORT For the week ending August 18 local health officers reported a total of 187 cases of communi cable diseases of which, 22 were listed as non-residents. This is an increase of 14 cases over those reported for the previous week. Utah and Weber counties each reported on case of poliomyoli-tis, poliomyoli-tis, According to the attending physician, one of the patients is an infant and the other a young man, 17 years of age. Since Jan-uaryl, Jan-uaryl, of this year, only 11 cases of this disease have been reported ag compared with 51 cases for the corresponding period in 1943. According to a recent report released re-leased by United States Health Service, poliomyelitis continues to spread in epidemic proportions throughout some of the eastern and southern states. For the country coun-try as a whole, 3,992 cases were reported during the first 31 weeks of 1944 as compared with 2,766 cases for the corresponding period per-iod in 1943. A case of tularemia was report ed from Duchesne county and Cache county reported a case of undulant fever. Ofl special interest in this weeks bulletin is the report of a case of malaria fever from Utah county. According to the attending physician, phys-ician, the infection was contracted contract-ed within the state. This case em-phasizes em-phasizes the importance of mosquito mos-quito abatement measures. Previous Prev-ious surveys have shown the presence pres-ence of the Anopheles mosquito througrout the central portion of the State. With hundreds of our boys returning from the armed service infected with malaria it will be possible for us to have a great many cases among the civilians civ-ilians unless active measures are taken to get rid of the mosquitoes and their breeing places. Sanpete county and Ogdes City each reported one case of typhoid typh-oid fever. To-date, during 1944. only 3 cases of this disease have been reported in tie State. One of the patients was a non-resi- dent and died from the disease. One case of lethargie encephalitis encepha-litis was reported from Drager-ton, Drager-ton, Carbon county. The totals for the week are as follows: ehickenpox 28, poliom yelitis 2, measles 24, Germar measles 3, mumps 19, pneumonia 3, scarlet fever 11, tuberculosis 1, tularemia 1, typhoid fever 2, undulant un-dulant fever 1, whooping cough 30, gonorrhea (residents) 19, gon-' gon-' orrhea (non-residents) 10, pyphil. is (non-residents) 9, amoobic dy-sentry dy-sentry non-reside'it 1, lethargic en- cophalitis 1, malaria fever 1, rheumatic fev?r 1, and chaneroid 1. |
