Show Five Chickens Fly From Frisco to Pacific Isle SAN FRANCISCO. Five chickens flew from San Francisco, Calif., to a central Pacific island recently, stopping stop-ping only at Hawaii en route, the navy announced. The chickens, four hens and a rooster, were carried car-ried aboard a Martin Marauder medium bomber to furnish fresh eggs for a lonely outpost. Lieut. John Heppe of Lincoln, Neb., the pilot, said the flight not only was successful for the fowl but profitable for him. He collected an unannounced unan-nounced sum from skeptical navy men who bet his cargo would not survive the trip. |
