Show PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Our August news notes include the typical summer activities. The Ladies' Aid had a delightful evening Ice-cream social on the lovely lawn of the Walter Strumm home on Yale avenue on August 22. Pictures were shown by Mr. C. N. Douglas showing the beauty beau-ty spots of Zion National Park, Yellowstone Park and Alaska. The Cub Scouts of pack No. 7, went to the Boy scouts Wigwam in Mill Creek canyon on Tuesday, August 19. Swimming, hiking and woodcraft completed the agenda of a happy days lark. The next meeting of the Cubs will be Saturday, Sat-urday, September 6, at 2 o'clock at the church. A fine time for new cobs to enroll. All between the ages of nine and twelve are eligible. Friday, August 29, from 3 to 9p. m. The Sunday school is holding hold-ing its picnic at Fairmont Park, with games for young and old. a picnic lunch at 6 15 and a cordial welcome to all. There will be 11 o'clock Morning Morn-ing Services every Sunday morning morn-ing with Sunday school at 9:45 a. m. The Senior Christian Endeavor En-deavor meets at 7 p. m. A Junior Jun-ior C. E. and an Intermediate C. E. are on the roster for September Septem-ber activities. You will hear more about this later. For those who are interested in the world situation it might not be amiss o remind you that the novel "War and Peace" by Tolstoi one of the world's great religious characters, tells the story of Napoleon's tragic invasion in-vasion of Russia, and gives the background for many things to the Russian character today. Here also are found some of the most alluring characters and scenes that have ever been painted paint-ed by the skill of the novelist. Music and meditation and prayer pray-er can help much in these days of stress to keep our souls clean, courageous and hopeful. For this we need fellowship and worship with others. We are not likely to keep the holy flame burning clearly if it is consuming the oil of our own solitary devotions without being fed from the wells of the world's great streams of spiritual insight and power. |
