Show French Girl Risks Life To Save Wounded Yank SUPREME HDQ. ALLIED EXPEDITIONARY EX-PEDITIONARY FORCE. A French girl risked her life guarding a wounded American rtarachute sol- dier through the first night of the invasion. The story was told by Pvt. George W. Banfi, 32, of Follansbee, W. Va., who said he suffered a broken leg when he landed in a Normandy Nor-mandy ditch. After crawling into a field, he was given brandy and water by a French family and they left to care for-other for-other American casualties. But that night the girl Banfi described as "in her teens and very pretty" returned. re-turned. She placed his head in her lap, and with a gun guarded him all night. Banfi is recovering in a hospital in Britain. |
