Sugar Etouse, Utah Thursday, April 9, 1959 Price 10 cents Sugar House Park Is Scene Of Evergreen Planting Detail The Sugar House Fark is now started on a beautification program that in time will make it one of the beauty spots of the city. The planting of the first 1100 evergreens and shrubs, started Monday. ' The city, county and state park officials who helped wield the shovels were hoping ' for a continuation of the spring-lik- e weather in the area to help preserve the plants. Harold P. Fabien, president of the Sugar House Park Auth-ority, said this weeks planting will will take place in the first 20 of the park to "Later this summer we plan to continue to plant lawns and install sprinkling systems on 15 additional acres south of . ' : s Naydean Jimas Naydean Opens New Salon In Sugar House This week Naydean Jimas will open her new Charm Salon in Sugar House. The smart, ultra-mode- rn parlor will open at 1049 E. 21st South. Well known in Sugar House Naydean is a former president of the local B. P. W. chapter. Naydean and her associate Mr. Nicholas Coumas, have designed a beautiful salon for the reduction of those "extra pounds" for both men and women. The ladies will be served on Mondays, Wednes-days and Fridays and the men on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Naydean will feature the famous JUPITER unit form-erly used in her Hollywood Salon. In addition she will have the TOPPER reducing line. Mr. Coumas, an authority on cosmetics, will supervise the use and sale of KAR-DE- E cosmetics available only at Naydeans. Bracken Lee, former Governor of Utah and National Chairman of For America, began a series of Television appearances last Sunday after-noon. The program is pre-sented at 1 :45 p.m. on Channel 2. The series has been titled "Behind the Headlines" and is an informative discussion of the activities of Federal and State Governments in their march toward. Economi c Suicide. Mr. Lee , will tell of the de-velopments in our local, nat-ional and International affairs and their effect on you the taxpayer and citizen. During the past two years Mr. Lee has spoken before groups in 42 states and already this year has appeared in Washington D. C, Phoenix and Tuscon Arizona, Dallas, Texas and on April 10 at Colorado Springs, Colorado. BPW Plan Arbor Day Ceremonies J The Sugar House Business I and Professional Women'! Club have arranged a Tret Planting Ceremony for Mon-day, April 13 in the new Sugai House Park. Members of the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce will be . in attendance along with special guests which include B. P. W. State President, Lyle Cardall, and District Director, Iva Barrows. Salt Lake Parks Commissioner L. C. Romney will attend along with Mr. Harold Fabian, PretSdent of the Sugar House Park Author-ity. Louisa Topham, B. P. W. President will do the ground breaking and B. P. W-- Vice President Mary Louise Gilmar will give the dedication. The East High School Color Guard will present the colors and B. P .W. Public Affairs an Evelyn Updegraff will give two readings. Public Affairs co-chair- Arietta Elton will be in charge of the entire event. The public is cordially invited to attend. The ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m. Kiwanis Club Members Hear Bank Official Walter E. Cosgriff, presi-dent of the Continental Bank and Trust, was the guest speaker at the Tuesday Kiwanis Meeting. He discussed the Continental Bank and the Government's recent disagreements. A civic leader in the valley, Mr. Cosgriff, is a member of the Country Club, Elks Lodge, University Club, and other orders as well as active in the Catholic Church. Program chairman was Lamont Hunt. The Kiwanis Club will host a spring social at the -- Fort Douglas Golf Club, Saturday, April 11. In charge of arrange-ments are: Doug Langton, Buddy Brooks and Dn Smitil. Shriners Make Trip To Mecca Ceremonies The Spring Ceremonial of El Kalah Temple Nobles of the Mystic Shrine will be held Saturday April 11 beginning at 10 a.m. A class of 40 or more candi-dates will witness the solemn ceremonial performance begin-ning at 2 p.m. and following the Banquet at 6, the class will be turned over to the El Kalah Wreckers for the tradit-ional "crossing of the burning sands". The entire production is under the supervision of Director Emerson S. Smith and Assistant Dire.c tor, Mike Rhodes. Visiting Nobles from other Temples will be greeted by Illustrious Potentate Henry Hammill and members of his Divan. The first section of the ceremony is under the Direction of Elmer Vail Jr., M. P. Greffoz and Otis Kirk. The class of candidates will pay a visit to the Shriners Intermountain Unit Hospital for Crippled Children where Miss Anna WiUiams, director, will take them on a tour of the building. Lions Nominate New Officers A meeting of the Sugar House Lions Club was held at Wright's Cafe, 1355 Foot-hill Drive, on Monday, April The Nominating Committee, which consists of three past presidents of the Club, Lions Wilford Kimball, Al Hollings-hau- s, and Dick Wells, sub-mitted a slate of officers for the coming year. Toastmaster's Club Elects New Slate Of Officers Tues. The Los Gallos Toastmaster Club of Sugar House, elected Clifton R. Alsop, president. He succeeds Robert J. Heaney. Other officers elected were Arthur Erdahl, adniinistrative Yice president; Russell Chad-wic- k, educational vice presi-dent; Grant Rowley, secretary and Knute Borg, sergeant-at-arm- s.
